2024 Emerging Designer Award Winner
Maxton Fox has proudly partnered with Western Sydney University for a third year to host the Emerging Designer Award Competition.
This year’s event took place in the stunning Kaolin Surfaces Showroom during Saturday InDesign, where attendees enjoyed an inspiring showcase of high-fidelity design models from our shortlisted entries.
Modularity: In Commercial Design
This year, our focus for the competition was all about modularity: a design approach that celebrates the power of simple, functional elements to drive sustainable practices in commercial spaces.
In the wake of the pandemic, we’ve seen a significant shift towards communal environments. This transformation sparked a renewed emphasis on flexibility, sustainability, and collaboration in design.
As businesses adapt to this evolving landscape, the demand for versatile solutions has never been more pressing. We were excited to explore innovative designs that enhance agility in spaces like lobbies, receptions, and communal work areas.
We received a variety of design entries and arrived at the below shortlist which we showcased during Saturday Indesign.
Our Voting Process
To select the competition winner, we invited industry professionals to vote for their favorite designs; something we do every competition year.
During the Saturday InDesign event this year, we showcased the shortlisted physical models and activated a digital voting platform that allowed attendees to cast their votes in real time.
This event gave students the opportunity to present their designs and receive valuable feedback directly from industry experts.
This interactive approach fosters participation and engagement, enabling everyone to recognise and celebrate the innovative talent of second-year Industrial Design students.
and the WINNER IS…..
A huge congratulations to Adrian Marsano and Claire McNally on their award-winning design, Centro.
We applaud Adrian and Claire for their exceptional dedication, creativity, and perseverance.
The inspiration behind Centro came from the organic shapes in different forms. Adrian and Claire envisioned a modular, low-level seating system that not only catches the eye but also brings the beauty of nature into focus as a stunning centerpiece. The design was created to adapt seamlessly to any environment, with or without the centerpieces.
